My ds has not technically had a whole grade acceleration. He just has done more than a years worth of HS before 9th grade. He may choose early graduation or may take a full year of PSEOP at a local college. He has been so much happier with the older peers. I don't regret the acceleration he has undertaken. He has stumbled at times but it has been great lessons for him to learn. He has learned to study and prep for classes better. The most valuable thing he has learn is how to fail and recover from the failure. In his younger years a failure would have lead to an emotional melt down of epic portions. He once cried for a good hour at 5 or 6 because forgot how to spell pistachio. It has been a great experience academically and socially. He was very involved in the decisions made. We never put him in a situation he didn't want to undertake. Hence, why he didn't take a full skip but opted for dual enrollment in MS/HS. If your Ds is on board you're not taking anything from him. You are giving him what he needs.
