My brother gave him his old slide rule! I can virtually guarantee that he was the only kid at the DI state tourney with a slide rule. smile

He's even sleeping with it, which I told my brother would be the case....

Now we just have to figure out how to use all the lines--we figured out multiplication, fractions, and pi times x, but it's a trig version so there are quite a few left to decipher that I don't know what answer I'm looking for so I can't just muddle through it. Great fun!

Don't feel bad, I didn't either! Despite the fact that Robert Heinlein was a huge proponent of them, I'd never even seen one, much less learned to use them.

My son handed it to me and said, "you were in the 60's, how does this work?" smile

Umm, I was barely in the 60's, and they were gone before I started school, sorry kid!

Thanks Trillium for the great web site!!! A slide rule would make wonderful present for DS9. I personally like the pi t-shirt and the Albert Einstein action figure for sale at the bottom of the page! laugh

Hey ebeth, I bought DS the Albert Einstein action figure years ago and it still has pride of place in his bedroom!

PS. When DH gave DS his slide rule, it was probably one of the few times in the last 20 years that I was glad he is hoarder.LOL.

Wow, My DS5 would LOVE that! I didn't even know that those existed. That would be a good present for his birthday in a couple months. Thanks for sharing! Isn't it great that we can share this stuff...and that while others would think it is crazy that a child would get so excited about a slide rule that we all totally get it and can relate.
