On some threads I've noticed abbreviations like DS, DD, etc., often with a number following the initials. I don't see anything about this in the FAQ. Can someone fill me in on what these mean? I usually see them with reference to kids and so forth. TIA smile

Dear Daughter or Dear Son, followed by the child's age.

I've got two kids, DD9 and DS6. My daughter is 9, my son is 6.

(Careful, other boards use DD1 and DD2 to indicate not two daughters age 1 and 2, but the first and second daughter)

These abbreviations are especially problematic for me, as my daughter refers to her younger brother as "dd"

Every time I read "DD" I think "dd", and picture a little boy.

So, you wont often see me use these abbreviations, and if I accidentally refer to anyone's DD as a boy, I apologize in advance.

Thanks so much for the insight smile I'm guessing that something like DM (dear mom) or DP (dear pop, to distinguish from the "D" for daughter), would be a possibility too, since giftedness is often considered genetic...

My mother was in the "gifted" class when she was in elem. school, although they didn't call it that -- in those days "gifted" was whoever the teachers didn't sit at the back of the class (although she is VERY smart and intuitive and extremely empathetic). My father, I think, could've been a good student too, but he unfortunately fried his brain cells too much smoking pot and drinking in HS. frown Regardless, though, I won't put their numbers after the initials there! wink
