He's also 7. What's worse, he'd be so rude when he asked for help. Took me a while to figure out that I should disappear when he's doing his work, so when he gets stuck and really needs help, he'd have to ask nicely.
Slowly but surely, my son is working his way out of this mode. What's helped - giving him lots of examples about mistakes being the pathway to being right. He's started to play IPad games, and there's this one that he loves - Gravity. He has to work out the best way to position blocks so that a rolling ball eventually presses a button. It takes a lot of repeats and careful adjusting for this to happen successfully. DS is realizing that a failure isn't a failure, but a means to learning something for the next try.
