It probably depends a lot on what examples they're exposed to! DS5 is a vehement atheist, determined (although explanations of why this isn't a great idea are perhaps beginning to sink in) to convince the other children in his class that no gods exist, hates compulsory school chapel, etc. (DH and I are atheists too, but more in the change the subject and think about the music mode!)
