    Grinity - thanks for the book suggestion, I'd be interested to look at it. I'm a softly, softly catchy monkey kind of person, so I certainly wont go in guns blazing.

    Shellymos, I love the idea of modelling to her too. I think that's a great idea.

    JamieH - I'm a big believer in this approach too. I think that when you're especially sensitive to people's reactions but don't have any way of putting it in to context it can be quite unnerving, so I talk to dd a lot about people's behaviour and the possible reasons behind it.

    I have not heard that expression before, very interesting! (the monkey part, not the guns blazing part...)

    I do think you are right to be concerned about negative corrections only for the kids! Hope you get something worked out.
