    I was reading on another thread about what happens when kids enter k reading at 4th/5th grade level. Well, mine was like that. Fast forward a 4 years and here is what has happened:

    She (and her teacher) have just won an award for Literacy and Social Responsibility from the International Reading Association! First place!!!!

    I think the award is so much about the teacher and hooking up with the right scientists at the right time, but it sure eases the sting of some of those early, "But she can't possibly understand what she is reading!" comments that I have been carrying around all these years.

    I would be interested in more details. How did you connect with a sciencist and what did they do?
