I'm not sure why, but my kids have loved it when they've done it, but haven't wanted to go back. (Actually, DS-now-12 did it for 2 years, but not back-to-back.) A one-and-done situation, and I'm not sure why. They love the making-stuff-out-of-recycled-materials aspect, but I suspect the other stuff isn't challenging or new to them (e.g., one unit focused on vikings, which is something they already know something about) and they'd rather have unstructured time at home than structured time at day camp.
I agree with Grinity that you should find somebody local to talk to. I think a ton of it depends on the enthusiasm of the teachers and director. If the leaders seem enthusiastic I say it's worth a shot. Like I said, my kids loved it when they were doing it. HTH!
