Just a story about where we might be right now if I hadn't been reading this board and advocating for a skip for dd4...

I was leaving the school with her a couple days ago and her best friend from a previous classroom was there with his mom and dad. This little boy is just a delight and smart and loves my dd, so I am always happy to see him. But the mom told me they had just been to a big meeting about his misbehavior, and were not sure what to do with him. I had told her long ago about my desire/dd's need to get into K and what our plan was. I think she considered that for her ds but some health issues and typical pressure not to skip intervened, as far as I can tell.
She said she really wished they school would suggest kindergarten for him, or they might have to move him somewhere else but so far haven't found a place. ( how do you tell someone to push? be that pushy parent!! )

He is apparently 'bored', getting into trouble all the time, not making any friends. It is both 'by the book', and very sad, because it really doesn't have to be this way!!! Arg, I felt really bad for her, but at the same time completely relieved we have averted this so far for dd (all the same stuff ds went through, but he is more of a quiet sufferer and not one to misbehave...)

I did what I could in the way of sending her info on signs of giftedness and some contact info for a tester, if she thinks her ds fits that description. It can be helpful if you can get a clear indication of what you are dealing with, but I know so many folks shy away from this at the age of 4 (I know I never dreamed of it with ds).

I do hope for his sake that she is able to figure out the issue, to look at him now he looks like's he's headed straight for some mis-diagnosis when just a few months back he was going along fine....sigh.

I was in a similar situation a few years ago, and like you I gave the other mom a bunch of info and resources on gt and wasn't real sure at first about whether or not she used any of it. But, then she started asking more and more about it and eventually decided, against great family pressure to send her son to the school that DD went to for the year she did K and gr 1 in a year because we'd had success there for her.
Just last week I got an email from her saying that things were going well and the teachers had seen his gifts (through his excess energy) and were getting him what he needs.
So, keep your fingers crossed, you could hear from them soon and need to extend the encouragement a bit more to help them become pushy.
