I've been searching online, but so far I haven't found any cloth with the periodic table for a pattern. Found one with a periodic table of food, but no real ones. I can't believe they haven't made it at some point. Anyone have some?

Oh, I also found a cool site where you can upload a design and have your own pattern of fabric made, and I may resort to that, but it's a bit more expensive than I had in mind for right now. Spoonflower, it's called, in case anyone is interested in that.

I haven't seen it but my mom is the quilting queen. If it's out there she will find it! I will give her the task tonight and keep you posted.

I tried to google it for you. E-how suggested just drawing your own with magic marker http://www.ehow.com/how_2187720_periodic-table-pillowcase.html. They also said you could use an iron on transfer, but I googled that and didn't see one. This site says you can make iron on transfers from blanks using just an ink jet printer (maybe kinkos can do it for you) for $10 plus the cost of printing. http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/ed082p517
    Googling gave me this:
    http://www.bowtie.com/silkfabrics.html.
She has that print but in silk.

What are you going to make?

Oh, DS7 found a pair of shoes on Zazzle with the periodic table printed all over them, but they are over $70. We have a Zazzle shop too, and could probably do that design for the base price but that's still over $60. So I was thinking that if I had some fabric in that pattern, I could sew it onto a cheap pair of canvas shoes and get him through several sizes for that price! I could draw it on, I suppose, but the ones he saw were lovely colored ones and it's not quite the same. I just wanted to go cheap, not LOOK cheap. smile

(Well, I see that the ones I linked to here are actually $65 before shipping, so it must have been a different pair, but same pattern.)

Looking at the picture I'd say you could do it with a sharpie marker and it would look store bought. Just outline it with a pencil and a ruler and use a fine-tip sharpie. That permanant marker will hold up in the washing machine as long as the shoes will.

I know what you're saying about the kids shoes being expensive and not lasting. I'd say my guy outgrows his shoes in about six months. They want to charge $30 for a decent pair of shoes for a little kids these days that are well made and won't hurt his little feet. Hooray for Burlington and the 1/2 price rack!

It looks like a simple enough pattern if you have time to copy it and trace it. I don't think you could use an iron on transfer on shoes.
