I'm wondering if anyone has attended this? What was it like? It's a little pricey, but it is within driving distance for us which would save plane fare. Any feedback is appreciated!

I haven't attended it myself, but folks who have attended seem to have really enjoyed themselves, and have urged me to give it a try.

I've heard very positive things about it as well. I believe it is relatively small and unstructured.

We've just returned to Pa from the PG Retreat in Colorado Springs, and cannot recommend it highly enough. This was our first year (we are already signed up for next year, as it was close to selling out this year) and it completely exceeded our expectations. It was a group of 50+ families (just over 200 individuals) with many children ranging principally from 5-6 to 15-16. The Glen Eyrie location is an expanse of beautiful old buildings, courtyards, terraces and lawns for play. The event schedule was well-balanced between classes/activities for children, information programs/sessions and mealtime discussion groups for adults, and free time. Everything was very flexible, you could opt-in to a large selection of very varied activities or opt-out to smaller group project/play. Most of all, the sense of community was amazing! Everyone was so welcoming, warm, relaxed, and supportive. This is a group of people who understand and value each other. It was just fantastic to see our children - esp. our son, who feels his difference most of the time - feel immediately comfortable with and accepted by a group of children who "got" them. We've brought home not only lots of information (from professionals and parents) but, more importantly, friendships (ours and our childrens'). Truly a wonderful gathering!! If you'd like to know more, please pm me.

Would it work for a family with a PG child and a MG child? Or do they want all family members to be PG?

    Thanks, Cat

Hi, Cat. It is an open family program. Other siblings are welcome with a PG sibling. The community is embracing and the focus is on establishing/maintaining relationships and providing social/emotional connections/opportunities for our PG kids and for ourselves. It was the best, most comfortable, informative, and supportive group dynamic I have ever experienced (and I am 50). You can read that you are not alone; that your PG DS or DD shares OEs, sensitivies, concerns, and challenges similar to many other PG children; that similar educational institution "negotiations" are being played out from coast to coast; and that other PG families are finding the resources to thrive in the face of broad educational/cultural neglect. But knowing it - while comforting - is NOT at all the same as having had 4 days to experience it! What a blessing. Just to be part of a community that knows you and welcomes you! Hurrah! PG Retreat has a website page and a Facebook Page, and applications are I think available on either. If you have any other questions, please feel free to pm me. I'd be happy to talk more specifically about our camp experience with DS & DD age 7.5.

Here are some links that pittsburghmom referred to --

The PG Retreat Outreach page on FB: http://www.facebook.com/reqs.php#!/pages/PG-Retreat-Outreach/124552554254025

and the retreat's main page (which is being reworked after a new web team was formed at this retreat): http://pgretreat.com/

The retreat was also great for our (first time) family. The whole Glen Eyrie site is reserved for next year, so it should be even better!

I had to reply solely based upon your user name. It looks like you are local to me smile! It is always great to see someone local. My girls are 9 and 11 and will be 10 & 12 this fall.
