Hi, our six year old daughter just took the WJ-III and the WISC-IV. She got very high scores in Similarities on the WISC and on Concept Formation on the WJ. I looked up Similarities, and it includes concept formation.

So -- I started trying to find out what the heck concept formation means in real life, and in tests. And I can't find anything. Can someone fill me in on this? I keep getting replies like "inductive and deductive reasoning" but I can't find examples.

    Thank you.

We are working with Mr W on this.

Concept formation comes up in puzzle solving.

What are bottom, top, side pieces?

    What are edge pieces?

    What are internal pieces?

Which pieces go into which color groups?

Are the color groups random or do they exist in bands on the puzzle?

How do these groupings allow for efficient puzzle solving?
