Hi I am new to the forum but lurked for a while
Most of children here are very advanced with speaking and reading.
My son is not early talker, sometimes I wonder if he got speech delay. He is not that advanced reading like kids here, start reading at 3 and read Dr Susses book fluently when he just turned 4
But his math skill is quite amazing, sometimes scary, what he can do now(4 1/3 yr old) add/subtract any numbers Multiply two digit and division with remainder in head, simple long division Understand negative number, prime number, odd number, event number, fraction.... Can tell time/date/age easily, always know what day/date is today, know how old everyone will be after some years Can tell how minutes to go to certain time(for example he read the timetable to tell how long the bus will come) He is crazy about math and numbers, does that all the time , when we in book store, he goes to area of math books and pick up the one he wants Now we put him in Piano classes with group children but soon I found it is too easy for him because he already read notes by himself, and memorised quit many songs
I wonder if any kids here similar, not that ahead with reading but good with math, and still gifted? And what to do with kids like him, good in math but not so good in reading in school??

Welcome! I am sure others here on the board can help you more with your questions, but I just wanted to say that just because your son isn't a fluent reader at 4 doesn't mean that he isn't going to pick it up easily at 4.5 or 5 or 6. Some kids pick it up early and quickly, some kids pick it up early and with slow progress, some kids pick it up "on time" but quickly, and all these kids can be gifted. It certainly sounds like your son is! But, too, even if he turns out to be an "average" reader, it is absolutely possible to be much more gifted in one area than another.
BTW: your son's math abilities do sound amazing! I look forward to hearing more about him in future posts.
She thought she could, so she did.

Oh, one other thing. It is not uncommon for a boy with a math-centric brain to be a late talker. There are several books on this issue, in fact. You might want to google the Einstein Syndrome.

My DS7 started reading very early and was making great progress until the day he discovered numbers... Math took over his life and ours! Even now at 7, he reads very well but has no interest in it unless it has to do with math or science. Unlike a lot of the kids on here, he thinks fiction for the most part is dumb and saw no point to Harry Potter.
So it sounds like you and I are kindred spirits! Welcome to our world....

Anyone has idea that what level giftness he should be?
What to do in primary school if he know most of math concepts already?

As for reading in general, math may be the way to get him fluent faster in reading. Have you considered getting him a book on word problems in math or specific geometry for Elementary kids?
Mr W loves Dinosaurs and will spend hours looking through Dinosaur books learning the names. That has been a spur for him to become a lot more verbal.

Hey Mathboy-
My 3.75 year old dd placed into Horizons Math 1 last week and she probably reads at a K level. She really isn't interested in reading for some reason. I'm not sure why but I'm just letting her do her own thing and not worrying about it. For example, a month ago, she could barely write and now (because she got interested), she is writing a lot. It was like in the matter of a week or so and she could write. I figured the same thing will happen with reading.

He is very good reading in math problems...but not into reading strories, his math skill is over grade 4 and reading probably grade 1 to 2..big gap!!
I wonder if it cause him trouble in school with his unbalance skill

Yeah, if children are interested in something, they can pick up very quickly! As Austin said, get her some simple book, story related with math she might love it and know math words soon

I wonder if it cause him trouble in school with his unbalance skill Understood. Try this on: http://www.madscientistsclub.com/These books are a hoot. In general, my reading took off when I was 5 years old because I became interested in animal stories. I read just about everything I could get my hands on - Jack London, Farley Mowatt, Walter Farley, etc. Call of the Wild was the first I read when I was 5 and it just ignited me. Based on this introspection, I think you just need to find a hook to really get the reading going.
