So a friend of my with her PhD in education gave DD the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test, which from what I have read and what she says, the scores correlate very well to the WPPSI, SB5, etc, scores....especilly the Verbal IQ scores for those test.

It gives a raw score which is then converted to a standardized (iq) score(max you can get 160), precentile, and an age equivilant.

DD's 2.11 scores shocked me....I knew they would be high, but wow....

    standard score (iq)-151
    percetile rank- >99.9%
Age equivilant- 13 years O months

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She wants to test her on some other fuller tests...we are discussing which one. This was just a quick look and one she knew DD would enjoy.

DS then 5 took PPVT and SB-IV. His FS was within 1 point of PPVT (2 points taking differing SDs into consideration), but Verbal was 1 SD lower.

This year DS now 6 took WISC-IV and got the exact same score on VCI as last year's PPVT, but his GAI was 1 SD higher.

In both cases he scored a percentile point or two lower on the Vocab subtest than on PPVT.

Since you seem to be in full-on obsession mode I thought you might be (the only one) interested in this info.

    Great score!

Thanks MAE, so they do correlate fairly well then. Yep, I like anything I can get my hands on LOL.

The PPVT was the first formal test our son took. It was part of an evaluation in preparation for speech therapy to deal with an articulation problem.

The therapist was quite giddy when she called me: his was the highest score she's seen in 20+ years. I never did get the scaled score, but she said that it was >99.9%, with age equivalence of 19y8m (he was only 7y8m).

This info came before I knew anything about IQ/AT testing, GT-Ed, DYS... and that was only nine short (long?) months ago.

A few months after the PPVT, he scored 99.9% on both IQ & AT. His highest section on the WISC-IV was his VCI (verbal).

Here's a Google query that brought up articles looking at the question of correlation:
Google Search for PPVT and WISC or IQ

These'll certainly give you something to chew on while you wait for further testing. Many articles found a significant correlation... so have fun!

That's awesome that you have a friend who can test your daughter. We all knew your DD would score very high. I know you have been eager to do that. I can see that that score would correlate to the WPPSI picure naming subtest, but not sure how it correlates to the full score. My DD's highest subtest was picture naming so this would be a very strong test for her, but I am not sure if it would be interpreted as an accurate measurement of full scale IQ and am hoping someone with more knowledge of this test and how it correlates will chime in soon. For all you know, your DD will be even stronger in the spatial reasoning tests, who knows.

Good scores, kiddo! Since she is under three, are you going to wait a while to test IQ? I'd, personally, wait until she is closer to five so the scores would be w/in that two year range such that you can use them for DYS if she is eligible. Also, if you wait until she is old enough to take the WISC vs the WPPSI, she won't need quite as high of a score for DYS. Of course, if your friend is doing it for free, there is no harm in testing more now as well.

Please pardon this interruption, but I must ask a question. How many of you have heard this statement or something similar after having your child tested? I ask because our tester said the same thing to us (except he said that he hadn't seen a score like ds' in 25 years of testing). Also, the only other person I've talked to IRL who has an HG/PG child said that her tester said the SAME THING to her! Now I'm reading it here. Is this just something they say to us parents? wink Just curious to know how many others have heard this statement.

    Now, back to regular programming...

In our situation, the person is a district speech therapist who only administers tests (like the PPVT) after a student is referred for a speech issue; she's not involved in any of the more formal cognitive or achievement testing. So for her, she sees very few GT kids to begin with, greatly reducing the likelihood of ever running into the already rare EG/PG kids.
