Hi, I've been looking for resources for my son and stumbled upon this site. He just turned two and was indentified as highly gifted by his doctor. She recommends that we put him in a local private school because they have the best resources for gifted children but we can't afford the 11k a year tuition.
We don't have other parents to talk to about our son and in fact I've caught myself downplaying his achievements to other mothers so they won't get mad. I hope I can get informed here.

Welcome! There are lots of great resources and info here. Just wanted to share as a parent of a 5yo son that is PG (Profoundly gifted) that private school is not the only options for highly gifted children. Did your son already receive testing at 2? Just curious because at 2 we knew our son was quite gifted (he was already reading and writing and knew everything for Kindergarten) but we didn't get him tested until he was 4.5 to actually see where he was at. Anyhow, I remember being scared as to what to do for schooling (still have bouts of that sometimes). Especially when I had heard from everyone that he would never make it in a regular school and that he would need to be in a special school. But fast forward a few years and he is in a public school setting (skipped K and doing his own program that is mostly around 4th/5th grade work) and still doing the rest of the stuff with his first grade class. It is going pretty good and he likes school. So just want you know that you never know, some schools can be a good fit. We were pleasantly surprised, because like you we knew that the tuition of a private school was not going to work for us. Good luck! Stick around and look at some of the old threads for more info too. : )

    WELCOME!

I would suggest looking into Public, Private, Charter, Montessori, homeschooling and Gifted Schools in your area. I enrolled my DC in a parchoial school on family reccomendations. I thought "they have a gifted program that should be fine". Well it's not fine. So now I'm learning and seeking school options as fast as I can. I would suggest any one in your situation start looking and studying this right away. It helps to be steps ahead so you don't get in a panic about what to do.

What make the doctor say DC is PG?
