    I think it is great you have recognized her gifts so early & can help her develop them. I feel like we really did a disservice to DS by not fully recognizing his needs earlier. It is scary thinking about a "different" life than the typical kid/school but I agree, it can only be a good thing to have so many possibilities. It feels like a lot of responsibility as a parent to help make good decisions, but still a blessing overall.

    Thanks Amanda for bringing those assessment tests to my attention!! grin

    I found out my dd is a little farther ahead in math than I thought and farther ahead in reading comprehension than I thought!! crazy

    Thank you all. I have calmed down a bit and am going to just try to take it one step at a time and enjoy it. It's funny when you think you are over denial and then you see something like that and you realize you still where LOL.

    I gave her the next assesment and she did not pass. She did get about half correct though. I but she had never seen addition problems, she had always just conceptualize them. So she really didn't have a clue looking at 3+2 etc. So this is good. I just ordered some 1st grade math stuff for her to work on, so it should be a good fit.

    Going to see about the language arts assesment tomorrow.

    Just saw this this evening! Wow, I think it's wonderful. She's very lucky she has you. With the combination of that exceptionally bright little girl and her supportive, proactive mama, she'll be just fine. The scariest part is finding the right resources, but you are well informed and becoming more so each day. Keep us posted on the language arts assessment! I love reading your posts and keeping up with how your dd is doing! She amazes me too!

    I must be really out of the loop ... I had no idea about these K12 assessments. LOL I have always just looked at the requirements for Kindergarten and 1st or 2nd grade; judging DD's abilities against these guidelines to know where she aligns but having the assessments has been interesting. DD (3 yr 5 mths) is clearly aligned with 1st grade for language arts and 2nd grade for Math. I don't know if I would call it eye opening for me since I already estimated her at that level, but it is definitely nice to concrete her advancement via the assessments which then helps me see where to go from there.

    Hi,

    I do understand your mixed feelings since my DD was similar. Where did you find this assessment? When I read end of year goals for kindergarten my DD also had them before three, but I do not think she understood fractions beyond very very simple ones. Hang in there, it is going to be an interesting ride!

    Just don't be too surprised that the 'fit' only last a 'short' period of time. It may be hours or months, but it will not be 6 months or a year. Anyone want to start a betting pool?

    I'd wager that if you gave her the assessment again, now that she has seen the + sign, she would be up over 70%. You might want to save on the shipping and try the second grade Math assessment soon. Actually you may want to start trying to figure out the 'DI-PI' method of mentoring your daughter. To put it simply: Pre-test, introduce the specific material that your daughter didn't know already, Post-test, move on and repeat. See:

    If I remember correctly, you said your DD isn't interested in workbooks. My hunch is that if you checked her level first, then -maybe- you could find some workbooks that she would find interesting. My guess is that this is what you are already thinking - Good for you!
