DD 2 and 1/2 has become very interested in space since we read a book at the library that introduced the planets. I picked up a book called "On Earth" last week and she loved it and now explains the concept of gravity to people And she has been incorporating space and planets into her play. Tonight she played "space frog" apparently he was from the planet Jupiter LOL.
Anyway, anybody know of any books that have lots of info but are not super technichal. She loves concepts in the technical science older childrens books but doesn't like to listen to them as much. She perfers books that just sort of incorporates the facts into a story. Thanks

Not a book recommendation, but Jupiter is out and visible to the naked eye these days (nights). It's the brightest 'star' and with a telescope you can see the moons. DS and I were just checking it out last night.

"Going Around the Sun: Some Planetary Fun" by Marianne Berkes.

It's a gorgeous picture book, in verse, with little factoids about the planets on each page, plus a more detailed section at the end. It's even up to date on Pluto's status. Be sure to get the paperback version. It has some extra tips from the author and illustrator (websites, books, activities, etc.).

"Planets - A Solar System Stickerbook" by Ellen Hasbrouck

It's also in verse, has good colorful pages and is also up to date on Pluto (something my son is very particular about!). The stickers don't last long, and the information about Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus's moons isn't quite current, but it's still a good read for younger kids.

Let me know if you're interested in space songs too. I've been compiling an iTunes playlist for my son. You wouldn't believe how many solar system songs are out there (especially "ode to Pluto" ballads).

I know my parents got my brothers a rotating constellation light toy (great description, I know). It came with a tape that explained all about the star and planets and where to find them. It was like a mini-trip to the planetarium in their own room!

I think you can still get them from learning-toy stores. I bet she'd really love that!

We LOVED the one that we read. DS is 4 and it held his attention.
