Was curious about opinions on this series of books. We have been looking at trying to find a really cool set of History Books for DS6 that are interesting and not dry. Anyone have any opinions or suggestions?

I am using the first book with my DD6's. I did buy the activity guide and would highly recommend that if you choose to use this series. I think it is great for this age range but keep in mind it is written in a story format. It is actually used with the history curriculum I bought for my DD9 as well. I think the first book is young for her. We are still using it but added Speilvogel for her. I think it is a nice introducation to chronologic history.

I have heard great things about the CD's. I have also heard great things about the Mysteries of History series.

They're popular at our house too (or should I say car since I get requests to play the CDs every time we get in it?!) We're on our second iteration of Volumes 1-3. I have set 4 but decided to hold off until DD7 & 5 were a bit older. I've heard set 4 can be intense and we've got enough tears over Ma's death in Babe. cry

    These are light and interesting

My DS9 has read some of this series : Childhood of Famous Americans. They are for ages 8 - 12. There are many in this series ex. Lincoln, Babe Ruth, Wilbur and orville Wright. As always check content is right for your family. My library has some of these.

We enjoyed it, but Volume 1 seemed young for my 2nd grader last year. It was a great jumping off point with books from the library, the internet, and we have the Usborne Encyclopedia of World History which has been great too. He's not huge on crafty stuff either so we did use the maps but didn't do a ton of extra activities from the book.

We actually have a few chapters of 1 to finish yet (we've jumped around with history and have gone off on tangents when we have relevant field trips available to us). We'll probably order 2 and continue on (even my Pre-K enjoyed the stories and some of the activities last year). I'll have to look into the CD's!
