We enjoyed it, but Volume 1 seemed young for my 2nd grader last year. It was a great jumping off point with books from the library, the internet, and we have the Usborne Encyclopedia of World History which has been great too. He's not huge on crafty stuff either so we did use the maps but didn't do a ton of extra activities from the book.
We actually have a few chapters of 1 to finish yet (we've jumped around with history and have gone off on tangents when we have relevant field trips available to us). We'll probably order 2 and continue on (even my Pre-K enjoyed the stories and some of the activities last year). I'll have to look into the CD's!
