    Patty,
Sorry, Im still scratching my head. confused crazy
Are you in the Southern Hemisphere by chance? Otherwise the score should be reported something like this:
    S08 RIT 162 = (4-22-08 April 22, 2008 or end of 1st)

    You can see that here:
    http://www.powayusd.com/projects/edtechcentral/MAPS/PDFs/00-04-05 Student

Id ask the teacher if you could get a copy of your sons NWEA MAP Student Progress Report before the meeting so you can digest the information before discussing the best course of action. That report will also have the percentiles which will help put his high growth in perspective. If you cant get a copy from the teacher before the meeting, I can help you create one if I were clearer about the dates/season/grade.

My question would be how much your child gained over the course of the school year. My second graders just took the MAPS tests - 14 of 22 scored in the 200s with 7 of them scoring 210-222 in math/10 of them scoring 207-225 in reading. Do they all need to be pulled out and accelerated? No. Their 3rd grade teachers DO NEED to know that,as a group, they have high mathematical and reading skills and will need to address those skills within the classroom.

For the record - many of these children had +20-38 point gains from fall to spring. I think it's less about the GT designation and more about the learning opportunities.

Wow! This is very impressive when you compare to the growth data charts on page 42.

A second grader with a starting reading RIT of 190 would have a growth estimate of 10.19 (SD 5.78). So many of your second graders have growth 2-4 SDs above the mean for reading. The math numbers are similar too.

What do you think is the difference between the learning opportunities in your classroom and those where children show more typical growth or even less growth than typical?
May we add you to our list of teachers to clone? grin

Patty this is awesome. Take your son to DQ! And please pass on the info on how you helped him improve. Dyslexia or not my son is absolutely refusing to read (he has visual tracking issues across the midline???) I would love to come back next year and post similiar results.

    Great job!
