    Hey, hang in there!!

I got an email today from a friend whose DS6 was left hanging by a local school district this year. He got 99 percentile on his SB-LM in Feb and he is getting into a local program for PG kids. The family is very excited.

It's all very complicated... the superintendent is sort of on the hot seat.....it's a huge district with over 10,000 kids.... and it has some "rapidly improving schools". He makes a lot of money over 4 times the average income for the city, and he is not from this area. He was hired from another state to come in and "fix" the school system. Many people here hate him....lol sort of a local joke, that he is a huge waste of money. So everything he does and says in under a microscope.

I have gone to him he referred me to the director of the gifted programing, who I met with today. I have met with him before..... it was like meeting with two different people.

There is a board meeting on April 1st at which they are going to be talking about a new program for gifted and talented, they will be announcing it to the public. The guy I met with today has mentioned this to me several times.... I thinks he wants me to come and support him. I don't think he realizes how mad I am.... I am swinging back and forth between finding a lawyer who will take our case pro bono, or home schooling.

He has said he has a daughter who is gifted and I think he understands to some degree what we are going through..... he seems to want to help i guess, at least that is what he is saying. But then he is not really offering much.

The SCAT test our son took we set him up with, it wasn't through the school at all.... I filled out the paperwork and he took the test at a testing place in a nearby city. I did have the results sent to the school.

I am also thinking of going to the local newspaper. They are very critical of the school system...... but then what happens to my son? everybody in the whole area will know he is "the smart little boy!" OY!

I would like to thank everyone who responded..... it was a moment of extreme stress. It's all going to work out, I am going to make sure of it.

Soup, do you mean, when you met with him privately he seemed more supportive than another meeting? Was he at the meeting with the gifted person and was less committal in that meeting?

Understand your stress, this is tough stuff. I know you were venting hulk like, but I wouldn't go to the paper. I just don't think it would help your cause the way you cause needs help right now. wink

Our school district will look at outside testing but won't accept it for any determination. Is something like this what they are referring to if they want your son to re-test?

Well the story is..... the SCAT he will take for the school is on paper, it is an older version, the one he took for CTY is on-line..... supposedly they are scored differently.... so he has to just take it an not argue. Personally, this was more of an issue for DH. He just can't see the point. I don't either, but I understand that they have to cross all the t's.

You know that show, "Life on Mars" where the guy goes back to 1973? It's not that bad here, more like 1979 in my little city...... complete with polyester pants, sideburns, over sized mustaches and pinky rings............... lol

Yes, very annoying. Our school had our DD take the CogAt at school even though she had already had private testing. She did well and then it seemed like all the magic doors open. It doesn't make sense to me, but the have their reasons. I won't comment on my opinon about the validity of the reasons, but it's more complicated than I first imagined.

My rec would be go ahead and have them administer their own test. I'm sure he'll do great on it and if not, cross that bridge, you know the rest........
