For about a month, GS9 has been complaining about blurry distance vision. It was so sudden and so pronounced I thought he was making more of it than it really was. But, I called last week, & got the appointment this morning. The dr said he seldom sees a kid with such poor vision on his first visit. sick shocked I told the dr. how sudden this seemed, and he said when kids around that age go through growth spurts their eyes can change rapidly. Bingo! Right before he started complaining he grew 1.75 inches in 7 weeks.
No big deal, glasses are on their way and GS9 is really looking forward to getting them. I just wanted to share this experience in case it helps anyone.

OHG, My dd9 started complaining her vision recently too. We are seeing the DO today! She has been complaining for a couple of weeks, but we thought it was a little green monster because dd7 has such vision issues requiring glasses and VT.

She also experienced a big growth spurt recently!!

I am now very interested to see what comes out of this appointment!

Well, Mamabear, I hope your dd9's vision problem is easily solved. Our DO said GS9's eyes tracked well, so glasses for his nearsightedness is all that's needed for him. I felt bad I didn't believe him when he said he couldn't read some things on the boards at school when I knew he didn't have a problem 2 months ago.

I hope it is any easy fix too! I also think there is an issue with those promethean boards they are now using in school and the computer usage. Since DD is so far beyond the other kids in her class, she is using the computer more often for supplimental work. So, maybe it is a little eye strain?

We will find out this afternoon!

DD9's eye exam revealed that she has a problem with "over focusing". The DO said that dd9 has begun to learn some maladaptive strategies but with glasses and perhaps some simplee exercises she can unlearn the maladaptive and the issues can clear up! I am really pleased with the outcome and so is DD9.

She got to pick out her glasses yesterday, which was a treat for her. She is such a "fashion plate"!
