I agree! I love that it wasn't a feel-good speech, but a call to action. My biggest complaint about America over the past decade+ is that we're coasting. Apathy reigns. We as a country are generally not willing to do the hard thing even when it's the right thing to do. We're all about the short-term, not the long-term.
I love that he said that there are things that have to change and that *we're* going to have to change them, not him. We, the American people, are going to have to make sacrifices and make hard choices about a LOT of things. I think that's true about so many things, and I've been DYING for someone to say it for years and years! Don't promise me the moon; tell me the truth!
Now let's hope something comes of it...
And, yes, grayer already!

Sorry, buddy. I just got back from school. But the inauguration was the highlight of our morning, for sure! Whatever you think of his politics, the man can certainly give a speech!

sniff sniff......Thanks! Honestly, I did not vote for him((please don't cyberhurl things at me)) I do believe he is the most able person to bring about radical change. The whole thing just feels so JFK to me, not to sound trite. I am seriously enthused to see what comes next.

Here's hoping schools are included in this quote... The question we ask today is not whether our government is too big or too small, but whether it works.....where the answer is no, programs will end. I cheered aloud at that one, Dottie. I consider myself a moderate: fiscally conservative and socially liberal. I detest ineffective programs and waste, but I want things that provide services that actually meet goals that match our values to be supported. I hope this is something that happens.

Honestly, I did not vote for him((please don't cyberhurl things at me)) No worries, I didn't vote for him either, but I do hope he does well, because if he does his job well it benefits everyone. reminded me more of Jimmy Carter, because I didn't think he knew what he was doing either (and I was 12) oh well, sometimes you have to have a Jimmy Carter before you have a Ronald Reagan

Holding back ... so holding back and so don't want to see this turn into politic disagreements.
I do have mixed feelings about Obama and I think it boils down to I am so happy that we (the country) has been able to get past skin color and gender it so makes my heart swell but I fear that in this process people are really putting him on a pedestal almost God like and I fear that this will have major repercussions because the man is human and time will tell what he can and can't do.

My whole point is that I liked that the speech wasn't about what *he* can or can't do. It's about what we, the American people, *MUST* do.
Big difference.
I totally agree that he is *not* all-powerful and shouldn't be treated like some savior. But I don't think he has to be based on what he's saying.
I just hope we are willing to make the sacrifices we *will* need to make. More than anything else, that's my fear: that we Americans are too selfish and set in our ways to do what is required to fix all that is broken. I think that's the real issue, far more than what Obama can or can't do.
