    I was looking around at articles because we plan to re-test sometime after DS turns 6. While DS tested fine with the SB-5, what he demonstrates at home just doesn't seem to match up to his "official" FSIQ score. If you've followed my postings since early this year then you probably know that it took quite a bit of time for me to come to this conclusion! I was googling around on the correlation between the SB-5 and the WISC-IV and I found pretty interesting:

    Gifted and highly gifted students: how do they score on the SB5?

    There is some really good tables in here (although N is small) but in a nutshell, it's basically saying that there are some HG+ kids that will test low on the SB-5 but do much, much better on the WISC-IV. I don't think it invalidates the SB-5, but to me there is a little validation that my gut might be more right than the SB-5 test results we got last summer. (The pysch did put on our report that he thought the SB-5 was a "bad" test for DS.)

    Isn't the data in this paper a comparison between SB5 and WISC-III? How does the WISC-III relate to the WISC-IV?

    Thanks for the info. We were in the Phily suburbs for Thanksgiving.

    May I ask you, if you have ideas, what type of gifted child doesn't do as well on the SB5? That would be interesting.

    Unfortunately, it doesn't make sense. frown

    Just demonstrates, IMHO, that the first test is a number to guide you in providing appropriate opportunities for the child to learn, whichever test.

    I've come to think along the lines of what was suggested to me when I first started posting here!

    Over a few years, our children will start consistently behaving in a way that makes LOG easier to understand. Keep providing them with the opportunities that seem to make sense to you and that they respond positively to.

    They will "tell" you the rest along the way. smile

    I wouldn't be expecting to get it all "right" myself, though, the manual hasn't seem to have been published yet. grin

    So I have a question for you all then- DS took the SB5 at 5 years, 6 months in August of this year and scored a 139 FSIQ and according to our ed.psych, hit two hard ceilings. She had intended to give him the WISC IV but forgot he wasn't 6 yet.

    He's solidly a Ruf Level 4 with a few 5s here and there and some 3s. Our ed.psych said she had never seen a young child like him before and she only tests gifted kids.

    Would it be in his best interests to take the WISC IV? Based on this data, it appears there'd be a chance of hitting that magical Davidson mark.
