    Hi everyone,

WOW! Everyone here has incredible, wonderful, special children. I don't really know at this point if I belong here or not. I have 2 boys 6 and 7 y/o. My DS7 was tested back in April, I have a handful of tests that seem to contradict each other. The only thing that stands out is his reading and comprehension abilities, he reads (at the time of the test)at a 10 y/os level. He also has sound sensitivities, has since birth. He also has speech and language issues. He did thankfully qualify for a 504 program. That's it in a nutshell for DS7.

DS6 has a September birthday. The cut off for my state is Sept.30th for grade placement. The school thought transition would be the best place for him b/c of his age. Well, today they just moved him to first grade. They want to test him in about a month, giving him time to adjust to his new class. Last week the teacher did a quick assessment test on him, he scored in the top of 1st grade abilities. The teacher told me she stopped the test early b/c DS6 was getting fidgety. She said he could have gone a lot higher. DS6 also has sound and touch sensitivities. DS6, I have always known was special since he was 2. I have always said, "that kid will out smart me one day." Maybe, b/c he has been able to lie and lie well since he was 2.(LOL)

Hi Tall Boys and welcome to the board!
I've got a DS7, too. MrWiggly (his choice of screen name, BTW!).

It sounds like you have a pretty good school for them at this point, if they actually did the testing and then moved the 6 y/o up a grade! That is *way* better than a lot of us have had to deal with! Not the end of your journey by a long shot, but what a great start!

I often have the same feeling and have even been told by MrWiggly that he's smarter than I am. I just try to stay one step ahead wink

Good luck and glad to have you here!

Thank you for the welcome Debbie. The school they are attending is truly great, I feel very lucky to have them there.

Will having sensory sensitivities have any affect on tests scores? At the time DS7 had his tests they didn't know about the sensory issues. DS7 also has low processing scores. Is it better to have independent tests done or is the school's test the better way to go?? I'm trying to figure out if the tests DS7 completed were accurately scored. I'm not trying to make him out to be smarter than he is, I just want to make sure the tests were accurate. I except and love both of them b/c of who they are.... My sons.

There are lots of reasons a child could score lower than their actual abilities. Perhaps your DS7 could retest privately with someone who is aware of his sensory issues.

Thanks for the input!! I think I may wait a year, till DS7 hits 3rd grade. He seems to be doing well for now and I don't want to rock the boat. DS6 will be tested next month. Then we will see what's best for him.

Thank you again, for listening to me.
