Can anyone please tell me which kind tto get? The only kind I've looked at are TI, but there are several models and I can't figure out which would suit best.

    Thanks in advance!

DS is very happy with his TI-83 Plus, which he expects will meet his needs through high school. He says the main difference between it and a TI-84 is the amount of memory for downloadable games and other programs (I would assume these programs include play and practical things like engineering programs, but I don't know that).

We got ours used on Amazon for a quite reasonable price. Many colleges require them and then students sell them when they are done. Ours was in excellent condition.

PS I am not a mathy person either.

I'm in love with my TI-84+ Silver... but $20 of it was just for "pretty" wink The prices are generally fairly comparable though with the 84 just about $20-30 more than the 83... The functions are close enough that so far I can use a TI-83 manual for the 84+ without a hiccup. So I think if you find one cheap you can go either way. Definitely a TI though... I'm sure there are other ones, but it appears to be The Standard.

Staples seems to have a TI-83+ for $90 right now, and a TI-84+ for $110

The TI-84 plus is required for my daughters class although it doesnt sound like it will be used often.

My sons middle/high school doesnt allow calculators until trigonometry as best I can tell.

The TI-89 was banned at the last school attended by one 16 year old we know. She said the teachers thought it did too much for the students.
