Retooling During Pandemic, the SAT Will Drop Essay and Subject Tests

I think this is unfortunate. It was nice to have 1-hour exams (students could take up to 3 at one sitting) that could demonstrate knowledge of subjects at the high school level. Advanced Placement exams are longer, more expensive, and cover college level material.

I actually paid for the chem SAT 2 on thurs. Friday it was cancelled.

I think the problem is that many of these Subject Tests are too low level (kids can score 800 without prepping) and many of the applicants to top-20 schools have many 5s on the corresponding APs, which would demonstrate some basic writing ability as well.
