We had an individual visit our school who shared that he used the Slosson Intelligence Test as a screener, and if children did well on that he would send them on to a psych for an IQ test. When I look up the Slosson online, I find quite a bit of information - from the 1970's. When I looked at the assessment, I wonder how it would do for second language learners. If anyone could share their knowledge about it, I would appreciate it.

Our schools is an international school with many of the children speaking English as a second language. We use MAP testing only. Are there any individual assessments which might be used as a screener for potentially gifted students (keeping in mind the language barriers)?

The SIT isn't one of my preferred instruments. I would consider the CogAT primary (age 5-8), which is language-reduced/pictorial. You might also look at the NNAT-3, which is nonverbal (directions can be translated) in content. Both have computer-administered or paper-administered options. CogAT is usually group-administered, and has a minimum purchase. NNAT-3 is more amenable to individual administration, and has a wider nonverbal age range (4-17).
