AoPS really starts from the ground up establishing a level and solid understanding before moving up. I imagine it as constructing a multistory building - if the first floor is not level then every subsequent floor is going to become further and further off true.
DD is studying the Common Core Algebra I using the McGraw Hill Common Core edition - it is jumbled and very basic in her view. She started this in September at school and so far (about half way though the course book) they are only covering stuff that my DD says she covered thoroughly in the AoPS Pre-Algebra course that she completed nearly two years ago!
As parents, we on the horns of a dilemma right now because if we let our DD go to do the honours Geometry class at the regional high school next year it may cure her of 'bigfishitis' by exposing her to children from many rural school districts. On the other hand, if we insist on her doing the AoPS Geometry she will learn it comprehensively and solidly.
