I thought maybe you guys would have some suggestions! I've been trying to get DS6 interested in some more challenging books, he inhales "Magic Treehouse", "Ready Freddie" and "My Weird School". I didn't actually realize how quickly he was reading them until he told me that he had read 4 books since we got home from the library yesterday. I've suggested "Harry Potter" and he started it, but it just didn't grip him. He's also started "Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe", but it's also not really doing it for him. He likes the deeper books fine when I read them to him, he loves discussing them and really seems to get a lot out of them. I think though the combination of the smaller type and the more complex sentences makes it harder for him to physically read and also mentally comprehend.
So, I'm thinking maybe what I need to try with him is are books that are just funny, light stories since that really seems to be the theme with the books he enjoys on his own, but at a higher reading level. I'm mostly ok with him picking his own reading materials and I'm not looking to replace them since he enjoys them so much, but I'd really like to see him have to stick with a book for more than 30 minutes to finish it.
Any suggestions for either books or ways to get him more interested in reading books that are a bit challenging at least some of the time?
