    I believe most people can become competent at most things with 10,000 hours practice. But some people achieve excellence in 10,000 hours and some achieve competency in 1000 hours. The interesting thing I noticed with martial arts is that very few of the black belts were "naturals".

    yep.

    I think the gifted bit here is actually having the willingness to practise at something for 10000 hours - that's a special kind of driven.
