So everyone else had kids using protractors before 5th? Huh. I suppose I can't swear DD hasn't done this, but I'm not aware of it having happened.

Re long division, I definitely consider 255/5 to be really different from 135794/67, or whatever. I hit a wall when I learned real long division as a child. It was the first math concept I really had trouble with (I am not a math person).

ETA: ah, rather like puffin, I see--except I never got any love back for the subject! wink Anyway, it was a little astonishing to see DD master hard long division problems in two days (and then get a 100 on the test). I seem to recall struggling with it for weeks, though I may be overdramatizing this. She DID complain a little.
