Have you considered meditation? Even just intense introspection focused on the transition from the stressed/painful state to a more manageable state. Don't be an actress be a model smile As in model how you wish your son could best handle what he is dealing with. And laughter is a great medicine for a mini-reset to allow you to step back and assess. I'd recommend the movie The Croods.

I stressed him out again yesterday. I had a migraine headache that was only partially dulled by medication. The headaches make me more sensitive to sounds, people in big trucks following me too closely or changing lanes quickly, long lines of traffic coming to a stop on the highway and feeling trapped, or the worst of all--being honked at. The angry sound of a honking horn jars my senses and I overreact and have to find a place to pull over to calm down. Sometimes there is no place to do that. I am overly sensitive to vehicular bullying and this annoys my son. I only wanted to get him out of the house to keep his mind off other things and I made him more stressed.

And beating yourself up about being stressed which is making your DS stressed makes you more stressed - right?

A very wise woman gave me one of the best pieces of advice ever when she told me that I have to stop 'shoulding' on myself.

Thinking about that stops the vicious cycle 9 out of 10 times ( hey I am far from perfect) for me now.
