Just wanted to share something nice for a change.
At school yesterday a teacher approached me and asked if DS5 would be moving up in the fall to her class or remaining in his current class. He was a 4y.o./5y.o. in a 5y.o./6y.o. class this year. I said we had decided to leave him in the 5/6 class and I explained our reasoning. I had a thread on the reasons but basically he has two important assessments in the fall (seeing a geneticist and an assessment with the Eides for dyslexia). We want to see what all is going on before we make changes. Plus he really likes his two teachers, some friends will be returning too and the ciriculum is individually paced.
She thought that all made sense but went on to mention that she was looking forward to having him in class. That he was so friendly and enthusiastic and that even with his struggles in some academic areas, he seemed to make great contributions to his class. She also said that if we having meetings to discuss the evaluations with his teachers in the fall, she would like to attend so she can start to learn about and anticipate his needs. She also said that if there were books or other resources I thought would help her understand him, she would be happy to read them. I seriously wanted to hug her!
Then I ran into his current teacher who told me even though it wasn't planned, she let him run with an idea to make paper boats, float them in a tub, improve them with foil and plastic wrap and test how many erasers they could hold. How cool is that!?
