Hi everybody. I'm new to the forum and just beginning to look into, and I know this sounds strange, what makes a child gifted. I've got two girls, one in 2nd grade and one in pre-K, and I've always thought they were bright but never entertained the idea of them being gifted.

Based on last years composite ITBS score, the second grader was eligible for the Johns Hopkins CTY test. She took it this past Saturday, I just saw the results, and now I've got to figure out what to make of it.

If anybody has an opinion, please feel free to share. In the mean time, I'll be looking around the forum.

    Test Form: eX1
    Test Norm: 4
    Verb Raw: 29
    Verb Scaled: 426
    Verb %: 52
    Quant Raw: 25
    Quant Scaled: 430
    Quant %: 46

Hi kanda02 - welcome! I'm not familiar with how Johns Hopkins CTY does things, but looking at their website it appears that your daughter took the SCAT. If that is correct, then it also looks like she scored just under the qualifying scores for their summer programs, based on this: http://cty.jhu.edu/summer/docs/young_eligibility.pdf

I'd recommend looking around on their website. There seems to be a lot of info there.

ETA - By the way, not qualifying on one test does not mean that your child isn't gifted. There are many factors that come into play in determining giftedness.
