What are some of your favorite educational apps for the iPod or iPad?

My DD8 loves Stack the States, Stack the Countries, Presidents vs. Aliens and all the McGraw Hill math apps, but I am looking for some different ones for her.

    Any suggestions?

They can also be Kindle apps too (she just got a Kindle Fire for Christmas).

    Thanks!!

There's a cheap graphics app called Inkpad that is fairly easy to self-teach and pretty darn powerful.

I had asked the same thing last year, which is located in the thread below.

    http://giftedissues.davidsongifted....d_Touch_aps_need_recomme.html#Post118855

Some other favorites for DD9 include:

Idiot Test (Despite the name, it is more like a brain trainer with a sense of humor.)
Wopple (similar to Wheel of Fortune)
    Scramble Free (Scramble with Friends)
    Word Jigsaw

Thanks for reviving an old thread! I'm looking forward to the new suggestions!

We just switched from iPod to android nexus and I am sad we did. It seems there were so many better apple apps.

    Apple apps we love:

Tell time light ( prob for a younger age-but for others looking.)
    Coins
    Butterfly Math
Rocket math (though it is not my favorite.)
    ArithmeTick
MindSnacks. All languages. Best edu app ever in terms of function, layout, etc. Four year old mastered Spanish using it..well not mastered.. But passed all 50 game levels.
Era of Dino -for Dino lovers
Geotimescale- so we are geologists, so we had to add these next four. But 4yr old loved.
    Mohs free
    Rocks
Planets-- super well done for both apple and nexus.
    GeoBee
    Scrabble free
    Blokus
    7 words
    Scramble ce
    Flow-cool spatial game.

I need a similar list for Android if anyone has good ones???

Thanks phey, I am going to check out that list today. Unfortunately I haven't found any great educational android games yet, but if I do, I will come back here and update the list.

If you have a young child, the best handwriting app we've found is Letter School. It's very gratifying to use.

My 4 years old son loves Astroloquiz. Before I got this educational app he used to play Fruit Ninja but not now. And another thing why I also love this app is because my son improved from his words, I can hear new words from him that he learned from Astroloquiz.

    Visit their website at http://togetherlearningmedia.com/homepage1/

or get it directly here - https://itunes.apple.com/app/astroloquiz/id577708973?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo%3D2
