MACK MELLER SETS RECORD AS YOUNGEST U.S. SCRABBLE EXPERT
IN NSA/NASPA HISTORY

Mack Meller, an 11-year-old from Westchester, NY made SCRABBLE history this past weekend. Entering the 6/25/11 Norwalk, CT tournament with a rating of 1585, Mack�s 2nd Place, Division 1 finish (with a 5.5-2.5 +1029 record) yielded +53 rating points. His new 1638 rating earns him the honor of being the youngest player ever to attain an official �expert level� SCRABBLE rating (1600+) in U.S. competitive play. In the course of the tournament Mack scored 3 games over 500: 565, 554, and 526.

Mack played his first tournament just 7 months ago, winning Division 3 at the 11/21/10 Ardsley, NY tournament. Norwalk was his 7th tournament.

My 6yo boy likes to play scrabble and is pretty good for his age. The game helps him practice spelling, vocabulary, and arithmetic. The site lists Scrabble clubs and tournaments, and I may take him to some in a few years. It also describes how to
