My daughter is now in 8th grade and reading at a much higher level. At this age, nothing shocks her anymore. She is younger than the other students and still knows more about sex and drugs than I did in college.
She is smart about all of it and goes through complete phases instead of reading a book. She now gets into a director or an actor and reads or watches all about her current interest.
She is a wonderful writer and fortunately is writing in different subjects in school. She hates "Step Up to Writing" and voices that to all her teachers. Colorado CSAP expects it though.
She is in a reading class at school and enjoys discussing literature. Her class just studied Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and she loved the vocabulary and study.
She is not in English this year due to the lack of English instruction (learning pronouns for two months). She took a college level English last summer and will continue with that in high school.
