Previously when I asked about settings I was assured that everyone at EPGY worked at the default setting and was given guidelines to follow to move students beyond that to the "gifted" setting, which I posted on the yahoo group. It has come to my attention that all students in the individual program work at the gifted setting. I printed a report and was amazed at how few students, especially with the caliber of kids (of parents) on this forum, use that setting in my "class". Basically I think EPGY forgot about/didn't fully realize the caliber of the kids we are discussing when they answered my previous questions and I don't want to see kids unncessarily frustrated because of it.

The gifted setting is the first step in eliminating repetitive exercises. It cuts the program down to help curb frustration. The program has always moved a child ahead based on ability, but within a given range. The gifted setting changes that range so the child can move faster through mastered material. If it isn't enought I can adjust more settings. The program is now giving the parent the option of moving a child up by half a grade (exactly 0.5) without having to contact me. (I would still suggest parents contact me and have me start the child at the beginning of a level if the program will set them in an odd place i.e 5.2, where they would miss the introduction to the level.)

If possible maybe a few parents would be willing to share their experiences with the differences.
