DS did not want to be grade skipped so chose subject acceleration instead, which is how we ended up with this particular pattern of study. He cannot complete high school without satisfying the Board of Studies requirements across all chosen subject areas at Yr12 level. You are required to have a minimum of 10 units (most subjects are worth 2 units) to attain your Higher School certificate. Unless for example you are a mature age student, as a school leaver you cannot enter university without a Higher School Certificate and the accompanying ATAR (Australian Tertiary Assessment Rank).

At present DS has completed Yr12 maths (4 units) 2008, has just commenced Yr12 Physics and will commence Yr11 English and Chemistry after Christmas. 3 years left at school without maths wasn't an option so the school organised his enrolment at university. As crazy as it seems that he is already enrolled at university it still doesn't exempt him from his obligations to the Board of Studies.

I hope this makes sense!
