Hey! So what your described as the school’s G&T program is not some thing I’d even want for my kid. So, I don’t think that’s worth pursuing.

He has an auditory disability and a learning disability. His 504 is really a list of classroom accommodations and assistive tech. It’s not really addressing giftedness.

There’s one bit that does use his giftedness to support disability: In his 504 classroom teachers are allowed to shorten assignments which helps with slow writing pace, but also tightens up repetition (which he often doesn’t really need). He’s really good at math, so on really handwriting tedious assignments they can have him do just enough problems to prove he has the math concept. They also can have him answer orally instead of writing - he’s a very articulate speaker so this allows him to lean on his strength and gives him extra practice in his strength area.

For the most part I wouldn’t count on the 504 doing any more than ensuring her medical needs are being met. I would look for opportunities out of school.

I recently did a sort of self guided assessment of environments and strengths/talents for my kid. Using a “strength-based” approach… it helped me pin point a couple new outside of school activities that meet his needs and help him shine.
