We found out my daughter was the school high scorer on the last day of school when her home room teacher dropped the little award pin on her desk. (We didn't know about the website at that point....). In our school, they only invite some kids to take it, and don't say anything to parents at all. (Just found my son's invitation, plus a second hand-written one from his math teacher reminding him he needs to reply to get a spot, in a pile on his bedroom floor. Needless to say, he lost his spot, though I suspect it was intentional on his part- hard to be the younger sib sometimes. But I still wish we had been informed.)
