I had such a delightful experience with a 3 year old little girl yesterday that I thought I'd share. I was gardening in our front yard when she walked by with her mom. She immediately struck up a conversation with me, and I could tell instantly that she has a very special spark.

Here is more or less how part of the conversation went:

Me: "What's your name, sweetie?"

Sweetie: "Elsa"

Elsa's mom: "Yes, her name is Elsa this week."

Me: "Oh, and what are you also sometimes called?"

Elsa's mom: "Fran" (not her real name)

Elsa, rolling her eyes: "Yeah."

Me: "And how old are you, Elsa?"

Elsa, with emphasis: "Five."

Elsa's mom mouthing background: "3, actually"

Elsa, looking at our cats: "We have a cat too. She's a black cat and her name is Blanche. In French, blanche means white." Elsa laughs hysterically and winks at me.

Elsa: "Would you like to see my magic powers? I can use my frost powers on your plants. And here (pretending to pull out objects out of her pretend pocket), would you like to have one of these presents? See that one. It has a picture of you on it. See the reflection?"

Elsa pulling her mom's keys from the basket on her tricycle and holding them in her hand and pretending to walk to a car, laughing again: "Look! I'm the mommy."

Me to Elsa's mom, after more antics from Elsa: "When did she turn 3?"

Elsa's mom: "At the end of April."

Me: "And when are you getting her tested for giftedness?"

Elsa's mom: "How did you know?"

Me: "Some kids just scream 'gifted'."

I can't wait to bump into Elsa again.
