Social chameleons... How do folks handle kids situations where it is not clear if your child(ren) are hiding what they are capable of from their teachers and staff?
Well my DS is only starting 1st this year, but he's a complete social chameleon...except when, say, he THINKS he's hiding but he can't: when he was a 3-year-old in pre-K they were having popsicles and the popsicle-stick had a joke on it. Well, DS read it to the class...in his mind, he was just telling his friends the joke. But, after the teacher picked her jaw up off of the floor, she sent that popsicle stick home with a stunned note that DS had read the joke to the class. No, I was not surprised, but it was a play-based pre-K, so I saw little reason to make a big deal about it before this that he was reading - anything, really. He was attending primarily for the social experience.
So he TRIES to hide. But sometimes they...just don't. I've definitely had to talk to the teachers with my compliant introvert more often than with my squeaky extrovert. But even more introverted DS cannot always hide.
