I disagree. My DS got in with a rec from a teacher he met at a saturday class for 90 minutes. What was useful, I think, was that I talked the organizers into letting him in with the +1 and +2 age group because he was interested in the topic. Because I was getting a lot of "He has ADHD" flak from the school at that time, I stopped in afterwards to see how his behavior was. The two teachers were pull out program teachers from a few towns over. They seemed to have enjoyed DS11, so I let slip his real age. They continued to say nice things, so I got an address, and an agreement to write a letter and sent over a form. Let's face it, if a kid is standing out amoung regular-gifted kids - it might take a while to notice, but for outgoing kids, it only takes about 15 minutes.

My .02$ anyway,
