I have to say that these book threads are my favorite. I have gotten so many wonderful ideas from these. So we will contribute now some of our favorites too. My 5yo book-eater (who definitely leans toward the comical or non-fiction isle) recommends:
Ms. Piggle Wiggle book series
Horrible Science box set
The Roald Dahl books - all
Murderous Math books
Secret Science Alliance
Lafcadio, the Lion Who Shot Back - personal favorite
Charlotte's Web - it did bring tears, but that was okay. It brought me to tears too when I read it;)
Stewart Little
Ralph S. Mouse series (though these don't get as many stars as the others)

These above are straight from his mouth. I'm sure we heard about most of them from this forum, but now they are tried and tested and get a stamp of approval. Today he is starting the first book in the Percy Jackson Olympian series - which I pre-read first to make sure it was okay for him. Hopefully it doesn't give him nightmares, but I sure liked it. Happy reading!

Ones that I have stashed away for him to read that he hasn't got to yet:
Wayside School series
All the Horrible books series (Geography, Famous, Histories)
Oz books (done two of them so far)
Alice in Wonderland
Hobbit
Wrinkle in Time
Phantom Tollboth (This one we already read together - it is a great read aloud, because you need to explain a lot of the word play.)
