I would be upset too. In my mind they should just have said ' x is in algebra because the staff determined it was the appropriate placement at this time'.
With the hothousing thing although it is possible to accelerate up to a point it seems to me you cannot teach what the child is not ready to learn. Ds3.5 is not ready to learn calculus so no effort on my part would do any good. Most 2 year olds are not ready to learn to read - including many who are gifted.
I sort of work with my older son. We do oral maths and occasional work sheets. And we talk a lot, and I never tell him to stop asking questions (although I ask him to come back to me later sometimes), and we read often. Should I ignore him to make sure he doesn't get ahead?
