As a fellow Australian, culturally, "freaky gifted" "freakishly good at..." etc is perhaps more acceptable than in other places. We are um, different, in how we express our affection and/or appreciation of other's strengths. I can think of multiple occasions in which I have heard people praise their workmates by saying something like "John, you're a freak", complete with big smile and thump on the back. Or "John's just freakish that way... He's got this knack for fixing things..."
