Exactly!

My standard getting-to-sleep tricks for the occasions when I find that hard have always been arithmetic, too, and I've introduced the idea to DS who also likes it (although he usually sleeps very easily, in contrast to me at that age). The trick is to find something that stays easy enough for long enough, but is more engaging than counting! I like to count by prime factorisation, e.g.
1
2
3
4 is 2x2
5
6 is 2x3
etc. I'm usually asleep before 100.
