DD9 came home from her 4th day in 4th grade yesterday and exclaimed "I'm terrible at Social Studies!"
I guess they did a thing on 9/11. I guess all the kids knew what happend and were able to answer the questions.
My daughter only knew the basics. No details...just that some bad guys flew some planes into some big building...about 2 hours from where we live and a lot of people died. I told them (DD9 and DD6) the day the got Osama Bin Laden...and I told them that it was a good day cause they got the bad guy.
Well, DD9 has NEVER been the one to not know all the anwers and lucky for her, there was plenty to watch on TV last night. AND DD6 was tired so she was spared the details AND DH who knows all about the oil and the details of the thing was able to show her in the Atlas where and why stuff happened...She wathced a nice tribute to 9/11 and saw the buildings fall and the people scatter and cry and all the fear. She wants to visit the site.
And that was that. That's how she flies...All or nothing..And when she is interested...she's not going to bed until she gets every detail...and I'm pretty sure she got every detail.
But...I never really wanted to tell her about it..and I protected her from seeing any videos. Like Ultramarina...I wonder why I should add to the fears.
At 7, DD was watching a show about how a gamma ray could set the atmosphere on fire. When DH saw that it was upsetting her, he explained that is hasn't happened once in a billion years, so it's very unlikly...She said..."How would I know that? I've only been alive 7 years?"
I hate having to tell her sad stories.
